Hey guys I know this topic has been visited before, but I thought it needed to be revisited especially with the shortages were seeing. We have recently combined to local hospitals and will be adjusting our floor staffing with the expansion of our
L & D unit. If any of you have units of comparable size/# of deliveries , would you mind sharing how you staff your L&D and triage area?
We do 1200 deliveries a year
7 LDRs. 4 triage rooms. 2 ORs
As labor nurses we do our own triage /labors/ CS / BTL/ D&C
Currently we have 8 providers
that can schedule up to 4 INDs and 3 surgeries per day
We staff 3-5 nurses,1 scrub tech, 2 transitional care nurses (baby) and hired a NA on days.
Nights only staffs 3-4, 1 scrub tech, and 1 TCN.
With this staffing we are working 48 hours most weeks.
WE ARE DROPPING LIKE FLIES! ?
It's been staffed like this for so long IIm hoping that seeing what other hospitals would be an eye opener when Management looks at staffing for our merge.
