L/D nursing

Published

I am a new grad looking for a job as an L/D nurse in Oregon, specifically Portland area, but I would love to hear from people all over the state about hospitals that are nurse midwife friendly, or any hospitals that nurses out there know of that have lower rates of c-sections, epidurals, etc. I am interested in working at a hospital that is very woman-centered and that is supportive of nurse midwifes, I would love to hear any input, thanks!

There is Andaluz Water Birth Center in Tualatin, suburb of PDX. I had a friend to deliver 2 babies there. Obviously, there are no epi's or much medical intervention there (meaning drugs, fluids, pitocin, etc). They are near OHSU (I think) if a need for intervention does arise. I delivered at Providence St Vincent's for my 2 kids. Both were totally unmedicated and my OB was supportive and the nurses were great to work with me and my birth plan. The practice I went to had several CNM's on staff. St Vincent's does have a high c-section rate, only b/c it deals with a lot of the high risk pregnancies and has a NICU (a GREAT one). St Vincent's L/D unit usually requires a year exp in L/D for application. I know Legacy Health System does hire new grads, but not all their hospitals have Maternity floors/units. Oregon is a great place to live!!
