L/D experience for seasoned RN

Published

Hello there.

I have been an RN for 18 years now and have worked in all kinds of settings from acute care to education to home health/Iv infusion nursing which I have been doing for the past 5 years. I have tried for years to get into L/D and most applications require recent L/D experience specially in the last 2-3 years. I have looked over the forum and there are many posts for New grad RN's seeking L/D entrance advice, but not many for those of us who are experienced and would like to transition. Why wont hiring managers even look at RN's who have 18 years experience, but just not necessarily in L/D?

Any advice/pointers would be appreciated.

I am not sure why they won't look at you. Personally, I would take someone with nursing experience over a new grad. Maybe it's the pay? But still, the managers shouldn't care about that....

Maybe update your resume a little more and see what they want from you....

I understand where you are coming from, I went through that too. I've been a nurse for 6 years and always wanted to work in l&d always applied and denied for the same reason, recently the hospital I work for offered and internship program for experiences RN for l&d. Fortunately I got in and will start soon, maybe you should ask about upcoming internships? Maybe you can get in that way.
