i am going to college to become and LPN were do i gofrom there?

Check in your province what the requirements are for L&D. In my province, they will not hire an LPN for L&D, you require at minumum an RN diploma. LPN's here only work in nursing homes and occaisionally small community hospitals that do not deliver babies.

In Ontario, Practical Nurses work in most hospitals. We work in pretty much every area, too, aside from ICU, NICU and Dialysis. We DO work in L&D, but it's not as common. Usually you'll find LPNs (called RPNs in Ontario) in the scrub nurse role, helping with c-sections instead of doing lady partsl deliveries. We work in postpartum, however, so that's still perinatal nursing.

Don't listen to people who say LPNs only work in LTC. That's simply not true anymore. Good luck in your career as an LPN! :)

What province are you in? Most provinces in Canada now employ LPNs in lots of hospitals, not just "small community" ones. I know Alberta, BC, Ontario and Manitoba ALL hire LPNs in many hospitals, and in many areas.

I prefer not to divulge my location for annonimity's sake but suffice it to say not all provinces untilize LPN's equally. This is not a knock against LPN's by any means, my mother, aunt and sister are all fabulous LPN's in MB and they in fact are not hired in the major cities for anything other then long term care. Outside the major cities they are hired in the community hospitals but not for L&D.

My facility requires an RN as the minimum qualification so all I'm saying is check a few hospitals in your area to see what they require.
