Anyone have any experience/knowledge of the LVN program at Gurnick Academy in San Mateo, CA? I understand they're a new program ("approved" vs. "accredited" on the BVNPT site) but was hoping someone attending there might let me know what they think.
Thanks,
Dave

Disorganize administration. The form of communication to students is mostly verbal. A few admin staff of maybe 10 people like to surprise students with new school policies, but given that the school is fairly new, I think they are still learning the ropes. I'm currently attending this school taking LVN and have few months left. I'm very dissapointed with this school. I wish I had gone to a different one.

Your experience is also what you make of it. I would say there were times of frustration.. disorganization... there was a teacher who quit on us, but that was fixed, there wasnt a computer room, but now there is w a slough of laptops, we were placed in clinicals and I had an amazing experience which really helped me @ clinicals.. Ive learned A LOT! and I grad. next mth from there... Im somewhat disappointed w our grad. ceremony .. but.. you take the good and bad and really, I didnt want to wait for a straight RN for 4-5 yrs on a wait list!! good luck!

every school lacks certain things because individuals are unique and they demand different things....this said, what makes a school a good school is the quality of its product: i.e. student knowledge and experience, level of preparedness to pass the national exam for licensure and/or being ready to work in a hospital.....
what i like about this particular school (and I have gone to two colleges and 2 universities (different country), vocational school and trade school) and got to tell you that Gurnick fixes everything a student complains about. SO for example I wasn't happy with the fact that they didnt have a security guard for night students, in a week they hired one!!! I also wasnt happy about the coffee they had...they changed it to Starbucks (free for students) and I know its more expensive!
I wasnt happy with the fact that there scrubs were only 3 sizes and they added more right away...I mean I talk a lot about the proof of the fact that they are working hard to better their school.....thats what matters - the willingness to change and to make us, students , happy!!!
