Kila vs GRx

Published

I have bought a few stethoscopes recently and wanted to share my experiences with others who may be interested. I just received my GRx CD-29. It came boxed pretty well although the binaurals were a little scratched. (Perhaps a previous return?) I have to say that I am not happy with it's performance. With virtually any pressure applied to the chest piece sound volume it attenuated by 50%. It seems to pick up breath sounds fairly well, but does a very poor job of ausculting heart sounds. The volume is low and muffled. I tried a spare rim and diaphragm and the sound was the same. I took off the ped diaphragm and used the bell cuff. Bell sounds are loud and crisp. People have called this a "cardio 3 clone" and I was excepting excellent performance, but IMHO it kinda sucks. I do not recommend this GRx product.

I recently purchased a Kila 770 steth which is similar to this one and is another "cardio 3 clone." It seems more sturdy than the GRx. I have nothing bad to say about it it blows the GRx and Littmann Classic II out of the water. Heart and breath sounds are loud and crisp. Using this scope I have picked up some really cool subtle heart and lung sounds in clinicals. I would love to use it side by side with a Littmann Cardio 3 and compare the performance. I HIGHLY recommend the Kila scope. Just be warned it is quite heavy and bulky (which is why it works so well.) Those of you who want a low profile steth may not be happy with this. Well there you have it My two cents. I'm surprised this company hasn't become more popular in light of it's performance. I think Littmann just seems to command the market. But there are other options...

I really wanna try the MDF ER Premier and Classic Cardiology. Anyone who has used this steth I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks!

I think my huge nursing textbook landed on the dual head of the scope...and it does not work. I got it early in 2009. I have not had much success with it. Sorry to rain your parade.
