Just took TEAS V last Sat....

Results were 89.3%...really good but not the GREAT 90s score I wanted. Oh well. I will take it.

Out of the 4 sections, Math/Science were the hardest. Reading was pretty straight forward. They want to make sure you are paying close attention. So, make sure you read question twice to be certain what it's asking. They try to trick you up a little. You have to read passages. Answer what is Main Idea (found IN paragraph) or topic (fragment about subj of passage) or theme (one word phrase); what is author's intent (inform, explain, etc); have to read an ad and answer questions - 'what number will Bob call to order XYZ?" or maps "What roads will Susie take to go from Library to Pharmacy?" (read map carefully - there are road blocks, etc).

Math - crazy hard bc not much time!!! Know fractions - adding, subtracting, dividing. I was surprised at how many word problems there were (not my strong suit). For example....Jill wants to rent out a room for a wedding. Room A costs $100 to rent and dinner is $15/pp. Room B costs $150 to rent and dinner is $5/pp. 120 ppl will be at wedding. At what cost will both rooms cost the same? Crap like that...ugh. Also...know order of things. Put these in order from least to greatest [0.0101, 0.300, 0.230, 0.202]. percentages..."Check at dinner costs $129. Alice wants to leave 19% tip. How much will she leave?" Order of operation [Please, my dear aunt sally - parenthesis, multiply, divide, add, subtract]. Don't dilly-dally on this section. It goes fast.

Science - was SHOCKED at what wasn't on exam. I studied far more on this section than needed to. Know the DNA nitrogenous base pairs = G-C, A-T...know that Thymine is only in DNA. Uracil only in RNA. LOTS of heterozygous/homozygous allele sex linked junk. Youtube is excellent source for this (I learned this at END of A&PII). Easy. But, go thru it. Know your WBCs...what each does. No chemistry. No Scientific Method (hypothesis) stuff...

Language usage - common sense stuff. Remember to take out prepositional phrases when trying to determine verb for sentence. Prep phrases (anything about "house"...to the house, over the house, around the house, of the house, by the house, etc). The group of cheerleaders wants to leave. [want or wants] --- take prep phrase "of cheerleaders" out and that makes it easier. The group WANTS to leave. Cheerleaders throws you off...several like this. Vocabulary -- "what does this word mean here?"

There is plenty of time for all except math...don't know why they do that. Good luck!!
