Just passed NCLEX & foud out I'm 6 wks pregnant - advice pls

I could really use some advice. I just passed NCLEX and found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I'm in such a bind. I need a job since I didn't work throughout nursing school. However, I don't know how to approach a new job about this situation. I know it's not legal for them to ask me if I'm pregnant or plan to be etc, but I kinda feel bad knowing I will have to leave soon after starting. That's even if I could get into one in the next few months. What should I do?? The job market for New Grads in Cali is so tough now. I need a job!

Should I go for temporary non-RN (but in the health field) job in the mean time (ie. home helper, med assistant or unit coordinators)?? Or is that moot because I'm now licensed?

How will this affect my RN status once I am able to go back to work after the baby is born? Will it look poorly that I didn't work soon after becoming licensed?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Most places require that you work for them for 6 months before taking materinity leave. In 6 months you will be 7 1/2 months along. work at a hospital, not a nursing home, they don't do this. The hospital also will help you pay bills and groceries if you fill out the required forms. Enjoy your baby during the pregnancy and after he/she born. Thats an exciting thing for you. I would definitely still try to get hired. If you can't find anything before baby is born then well...you've got a great excuse. I think hiring managers would look much more favorably on that than if you just couldn't find anything. It will get trickier as time goes on though. For example if you're still doing orientation when you have to take time off then it might be worth waiting until after the pregnancy.

Oh and congratulations! My youngest was more than a surprise...I call her my heart attack baby. I started my hardest semester when she was 2 weeks old and while much of that time is a blur, we made it through.
