Hi everyone,

I am new to this and I have just graduated from a business school i know it is totally different from nursing but I am sooooo interested in becoming a labor and delivery nurse but I do not know where to start. I have no clue what type of degree do I have to look into or what I need to become an L&D nurse. Please help with information, thanks.

There are several ways you can go about it... First you need to complete a program that allows you to test to be a RN. You can do this with and associates degree or a bachelors degree and in your case since you already have a degree there are some programs that offer a masters degree in nursing for those with non-nursing degrees. A good place to look for schools is http://www.allnursingschools.com/find It will probably take at least 2 years for you to complete a nursing degree. After that apply, apply, apply. Most hospitals do accept new grads into L&D.

At our university, there is an accelerated nursing program designed for people already who have non-nursing degrees. It is 16 months long, and free, you just have to give up 2 years of your nursing career to one of 3 hospitals in town, all of which are good hospitals. You have to apply and all that is involved with that....I assume other schools out there must offer the same/similiar programs such as this?
