Just became a nurse - Moving to Dublin :)

Published

Hi there,

I have just got a job offer to relocate from Israel to Ireland. In addition, I am a European citizen (Bulgaria) so my moving process is simple.

However, my wife Melanie does not have another citizenship other then Israeli.

She has a BSc in Bio-med engineering, and has just finish her nursing school and finally got her nursing certificate. She would like to practice nursing in Dublin. It would be her 1st position as a nurse .

So no previous experience as a nurse.

Would that be possible?

I am aware of the tests that she needs to do. There is an English test (IELTS) and an aptitude test.

Has your wife looked on the Nursing & Midwifery Board for Ireland? there should be detailed instructions for overseas applicants/ internationally educated nurses.

Actually, we did look and never found any suggestion regarding the experience.

It is implied that the comity would need to deiced every individual's case.

I have got the impression that Ireland is supporting nurses to immigrate. That is the reason we want to come working here.

However, in your opinion and or experience, does she stand a chance of getting a job as a nurse as her first position?

Has your wife tried contacting the human resources departments at various Dublin hospitals and other healthcare employers? They will know if they have a shortage or surplus of applicants for job vacancies. Nursing employment goes through cycles of surpluses and shortages depending on economic and political factors. Sometimes nurses and the general public are under the impression that there is a perpetual shortage of nurses, but it's not true, there are both shortage and surplus cycles.
