This is my first post (I think), but I have been a long time reader. Here is my situation/background and I am looking for some thoughts. I have three years of RN experience. I have worked in several areas, but the vast majority has been spent in Medical/Surgical ICU. Before nursing, I managed a retail store for seven years.
If I am granted the opportunity of an interview what should I expect? If I am fortunate enough to be offered the position, what kind of salary range should I expect given this current economy? The salary range for this job (I've heard through the grapevine is 75K to 95K although the lower end of the range currently do not hold a BSN, but may have accumulated nursing management experience.)
So, here's to being hopeful. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.
BTW, I do work as a staff/charge nurse on the units which I would be managing. I have a great respect for my co-workers and I believe they return the respect.

I believe they will expect you to state your strengths and weaknesses and what you have to offer. They may ask how you would handle conflicts, scheduling, delegation and your experience with budgets. I would acquaint myself with the facilities business goals & mission & values so you can work them into your conversation. Considering your lack of NURSING management, you might start at the low end of the pay scale. I would ask what that range is before you make a commitment. Be sure to ask about what they expect from you as well. If you are short-staffed will you work the floor? Will you have clerical assistance? Would you be responsible for more than one dept? Good luck!!
