Journals

I am a new RN just starting out in the NICU, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a monthly journal I could subscribe too in order to keep up with the latest preemie info.

Thanks

There is Neonatal Network which is from ANN and Advances in Neonatal Care fro NANN. Both are quarterly and both require you join the organization (Sure of that with NANN, not as sure with ANN.)

I am a member of NANN and I think the journal is OK, but, after seeing the NN, I would really like to subscribe to get this one...... it seems to be more interesting to me as a neonatal bedside nurse.

I am a member of both NANN and ANN and have learned so much from both of their journals over these many years. I also subscribe to Neonatal and Infant Nursing Reviews published by Lippincott.

All three are terrific journals. Lately I feel that the NANN journal (Advances in Neonatal Care) has had more articles relating to actual bedside nursing care than it used to which has been wonderful since I am a bedside nurse. I also enjoy the diagrams that the NANN journal tends to have a bit more of. Don't get me wrong though, because I adore my Neonatal Network journal from ANN too. Oh yes, and if you ever can, make the effort to attend one of their national conferences. Both NANN and ANN have them each year. The Neonatal and Infant Nursing Reviews journal is a topical journal which has articles that cover a certain topic with each publication; there is no organization to join to subscribe to this journal. The NANN and ANN journals come out every other month and the NAINR journal comes out every 3 months.

Honestly, if someone told me I had to decide to choose just one journal to subscribe to I would have to tell them that would be like choosing only one child to save from a fire... I just couldn't do it! I love them all and will subscribe to them all for as long as I am a neonatal nurse.

I subscribe to Neonatal Network ( the AANN also has a GREAT selection of NICU textbooks, along with online back-issues of NN) It is bimonthly though. I also subscribe to the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing, and Maternal-Child Nursing, all by Lippincott.
