Hey all! Was wondering if anyone else had applied for Hopkins traditional program. The application deadline is Jan 15th, and I'm pretty much finished. I have one more essay to write, and am hounding my teachers to get my recommendation sheets back to me  I'm kind of wary about my chances to get into the program since I have a rather low undergraduate GPA(3.18) but have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs(2 left). Any current students or applying students want to chime in?

Hi Dalsor :)

I will be applying to the trad program too! I plan on mailing in my application hopefully next week.. just getting my essays looked over one last time :p.

My friend who entered the program last year told me that she knew someone in it with a 2.5 undergrad GPA, but I don't know much else. My GPA is actually a bit lower than yours... but I'm still gonna give it a shot lol.. we still have a chance!

What other schools are you applying to? Have you heard from any yet?

Well, I'm planning on applying to NYU, Drexel(If I can get into ethics next semester), and University of Rochester. Also a few ADN programs back home in Cali. I have a friend in her second and final year at Hopkins for the trad program, and she loves it. What schools are you applying to? I haven't really applied to any place else yet since I have pre-reqs in progress this upcoming semester.

hi there. i applied early decision for the 2010 traditional bsn/msn and was accepted last month. i have been told that they review all aspects of every application that they receive, so a lower gpa may be offset if your essays, life experience, and volunteer history stand out.

i visited or spoke with the admissions staff at many nursing schools and jhu really stood out. given their ranking and reputation they receive enough applications that they could simply take those with perfect academic records. however, they chose to really take a holistic approach to selecting a student body. looking around at my fellow ed accepted students, they are an amazing, diverse bunch of people!

since i was also applying for the msn program, i interviewed with an admissions officer and, although she did touch on the reason behind any academic weaknesses, more than anything the interview was designed to allow them to find out what non-academic strengths that i could bring to jhu and whether my goals were congruent with the goals of jhu.

good luck to both of you - having just been through it myself, i can really sympathize with the pressure of conveying why you belong at hopkins in three very short and very specific essays. not to mention the torture of waiting once you have let your application go!

by the by - a piece of advice if you have not submitted your essays yet: the instructions say "approximately" 200-300 words, and in my experience an extra 20-30 words is no biggie, but absolutely do not abuse the spirit of that "approximately." during my interview the admissions officer commented that she had enjoyed my well-written, succinct essays - and added that many people submit essays that poorly written, off-topic, and are so long (2-3 pages) and that it send the admissions staff a clear message about the applicants ability to follow directions!

anywho - good luck and keep us posted! hopefully we will be classmates come this fall! :D

Dalsor- I applied to Drexel in Oct and was accepted. Since I wouldn't mind going to Drexel, I decided not to apply to other schools except JHU :p which is my top choice of course. What part of CA are you from? I'm currently in San Diego.

Protongirl- Thanks for the awesome advice and encouragement! I've also enjoy reading your replies in the other posts :) I hope not applying ED won't hurt my chances that much...

Hey cool10splayer...why'd you choose to apply to Drexel over UPenn and Villanova in Philly?? I'm planning to apply to Villanova and am looking into NYU as well.

Also, if you don't mind sharing, could you post up your GPA, work experience, and what undergrad degree you received??

Thanks!

BCH_BS2006- To tell you the truth, I chose Drexel based off the posts I read on this site.. I didn't think I had a chance at UPenn and I've never heard of Villanova...=P

Due to horrible grades my 1st and 2nd years... my undergrad GPA is 2.94 BS/BA in Human Biology and Psychology. After I graduated, I took a year of prereqs for multiple schools and retook some courses ~3.9GPA. I decided not to apply to most schools after I got accepted to Drexel, based on tuition and living costs, which i should have looked into earlier.

Work experience: Interned 2 years in a hospital in various departments (lots of patient contact), setup medical clinics abroad, and worked as a lab assistant in medical research for almost 3 years...and a lot of community service throughout college.

Hope that helps :).

I know! I've been very curious too! I want to know if anyone got accepted with a 3.2 GPA?
