My husband is being relocated to McChord AFB in June. I am an L&D nurse with over 5 years of L&D experience. I have looked at several hospital websites, but since I am not moving until June, I have not applied to any jobs. I understand that 8 hour shifts are the norm, is this correct? Any information would be helpful since I am just starting my search. I do not want to commute very far (30 minutes or so), and I am only looking for a per diem job. So where is a good place for me to work?
Thanks in advance!

Are you guys going to live on-base? St. Clare Hospital, a community hospital, is very close if so (technically in Lakewood, not Tacoma). There's another much larger hospital in Tacoma run by the same outfit, St. Joseph. http://www.fhshealth.org/jobsearch.aspx
Tacoma General Hospital and Allenmoore Hospital are also in the area. http://www.multicare.org/home/nursing
I don't know what typical shifts are for L&D in the area (definitely not my area of focus), but I know I've seen at least some ads for 12 hrs, too. I definitely can't tell you anything about specific facilities when it comes to L&D, but I've heard generally positive things from people I know employed within those two systems.

St. Clare's doesn't deliver babies though.
Try TG, Allenmore, Good Samaritan (farther out though) St. Joes.
Madigan Army Medical Center does babies, they have a level 3 NICU also.
St. Clare's doesn't deliver babies though. . . .
D'oh, good point.
