I will be a new in May and I keep hearing that nurses are having a hard time finding work in hospitals recently. As a new grad I know that I don't really have any experience to bring to the table, I am wondering if there is anything else I can do extraciricularly to make myself more attractive to employers. Do any experienced nurses or nurse recruiters have any advice?

Look for a nurse externship or even a nurse aid job while in school. Many employers will even reimburse for education while in these jobs. They often hire on the new grad as a nurse once NCLEX is passed.

I have heard its harder for new nurses to find jobs now. When I graduated 2years ago, it was tough but I hear its gotten even more competitive. Some hospitals offer extern programs and/or fellowship programs where they essentially give you in depth training for a specific unit (usually one they have trouble staffing or keeping staff in) and you commit to work for a certain period of time. Search for one of those and don't be afraid to take a position someplace that is not truly your passion...you may learn something new.
