Hello everyone I am from hawaii and I've visited Seattle during spring break this year since my girlfriend wanted to look for nursing jobs. We're both May 2009 graduates from a BSN program from University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her friend lives in Seattle who work as an RN since 2008 at Seattle children's hospital. We like it there although i grew up in oahu and she grew up in kauai. I graduate from the FNP program in august 2011 and I was wondering if there are many hospitals who would hire new grad RNs who has just received their masters as an FNP in Washington? What about specifically in Seattle? I don't have acute care RN experience after i got my license. I've also been meaning to join the air force after i gain the experience of a few years. We've been bummed out how the job market for RNs here in Hawaii is terrible!

Specializes in mental health, military nursing.

Have you thought about just joining the Air Force? It's a lengthy process to get in (and one I'm always done with!), but they seem to have a pretty big need for NPs. Waiting list for new grads RNs is a year.

My husband and I are actually moving to Seattle for the 8 months until our COT (officer training school) starts up in the spring, so I both feel your pain and have no good advice for you. :D

Good luck!

Specializes in Corrections.

the pay for an FNP is not so hot in Seattle.. prolly 70 to 80k if you go work at Harborview for example..

if you go work corrections (which in this example is not in seattle, but works with immigration health services and the public health corps--the idea is you can work your way back to seattle) you will make substantially more money potientially and get the experience you need
