Ok so I am a stay at home mom of 2 children ages 6 and 3. I have been thinking its about time for me to get out of the house.
At first my plan was to upgrade and then go for the BScN. However I just dont live close enough to a city to go to university. Not to mention the upgrading.
So my next plan was to do a little bit of upgrading and go for the Practical Nurse education. It is a 2 year program through distance study. I am done 1 out of 4 of the main courses and on top of that I need 2 Anatomy and Physiology classes. It is very expensive to upgrade. Im talking like $600/course. Getting the money for my next course just taking too long. Not to mention how bad I feel to have to rely on my husband to pay for my educational mistakes.
I have found a job as a Nursing Attenent that does not require the CNA certificate right away, it does however need to be completed within 18months (considering its a 16week course this will be no problem)
If I can get this job and if it is flexible enough to schedual me pretty much on my husbands days off... Then I will be able to pay for all of my own education while gaining some GREAT bedside experiance.
Has anyone been hired and then gone back for the training??

How can you become a LPN through distance education?
Its pretty much online. You go into the city for tests and practice clinicals. Then the real clinicals are done in your community.
That sounds sweet. I wish there was a school like that near here. It would probably make it possible to work as a NAC while earning your LPN. If I could do that I would. Here LPN classes are on campus four days a week all day so no part time job and full time momming is possible. However most RN programs here are three days all day or four days part day so it would be possible for me to work as a NAC at the same time.
Also, for the program your in can you take only one course at a time and work? It might take longer but it would be less stress full and more affodable because you would be working as well. Good luck
