Hi there, me again. A question for those working in Ontario, preferably in or near Ottawa. What are job conditions like? What is available? What are the chances of actually getting a job after graduating? I know the prov. govt. has an initiative at the moment giving all new grads a job for the first year. I'm talking after that...Thanks!!

Check out the Ontario Nurses Association website and they may have notices of jobs and (layoffs) for specific areas. I am not from Ottawa area so I can't comment.
Sorry!

Sorry to bring the bad news, but jobs in the Ottawa area are few & far between. Check out the hospital websites.
Yes, the HFO new grad initiative is available, but once your term is up there is absolutely no guarantee of even a casual job.
Yikes! That doesn't sound good...I'm hoping/thinking this is more a cyclical event, and things even out eventually?

I moved to AB, because HFO is a joke, in my opinion. Very few jobs posted with that initiative and I know people who took HFO that were looking for work less than 6 months later. Be careful with that. At the moment, Ontario seems to be one of the worst Provinces for work. But nursing jobs are slim everywhere. Try to make some connections. And take whatever you can get, in order to gain some experience.
We all hope for the best, and it IS cyclical. But these conditions have existed in the US and Canada for more than 3 yrs now. Unfortunately, I don't see things improving for at least 2 more years, maybe longer. However, if you want to be a nurse, there is a job somewhere. But, you have to be willing to accept the position you get. That's the reality at the moment.
