Is it really impossible for new grad LPNs to find employment in NYC?

Published

What is the outlook for new grad LPNs in NYC? I heard that LPNs are being phased out. If a new grad LPN is 100% flexible to scheduling and where they work, does that even help...or are things so bad that it's a slim shot to begin with?

I have heard of RNs with 20 years of experience being laid off and ONLY able to find a part-time job after 5 months of applying and interviewing....in NYC! This outlook seems quite disheartening for newbie LPNs. I have also noticed that Medical Assistants, Med Techs, PCTs, etc. seem to be replacing LPNs in hospitals, clinics, etc.

No, it is not. You have to continue to look around. Send out those applications to the nursing homes and hospice too. I am trying to find a job myself but I will continue to send out applications.

How long have you been looking, gifted? I'm actually asking for a friend.

I have been looking for a job for six months now. I got my RN license in March and still no job.

That is no good :( Have you applied everywhere, or are you being more selective? Are you applying for LPN positions or RN positions?

I'm no expert, as I'm only a prospective nursing student at the moment, but while doing research to see what the job prospects are like for new grad RNs, I recently saw HHC Hospitals with openings for LPNs, and they do not require any experience (at least they don't say so right on the site). Don't know if this is usually the case or not, but I would assume that puts new grad LPNs in a slightly better position?

Coler-Goldwater and Gouverneur Healthcare Services have a total of 27 openings for LPNs.

Like I said, I really have no idea if it's tough on new grad LPNs since I've only been looking for RN jobs, but considering that there were 27 jobs for potential LPNs and I think one or two for RNs, I would guess that it might be easier.

Might be better off with LPN cuz RNs usually cost more. Also got my license in March, still no job...
