It is a kind of long story but I would like to hear your opinion for that.
I am a new grad nurse. After I graduated, I applied for all of Postpartum job but could not get an interview from them at all. I was told from my friends that OB in our nearby hospitals is so competitive that RN having years experiences could not get into.
As of now, I got an interview Pediatric clinic and General medicine inpatient unit. Actually, I could apply for more inpatient jobs but continuing interview seemed like overwhelming to me so I just stopped applying more.
Anyway, I got a job offer from Pediatric clinic and waiting for General medical unit. Both are the same hospitals having birth setting and NICU.
If I get into postpartum after a few years experiences, do you think med/surge inpatient experiences are necessary to get into PP unit? If it does not matter, pediatric clinic is okay to start to get into PP unit?
I like pediatric working environment but I also want to work in OB inpatient unit if I can get an opportunity.
