Is it possible to audit nursing courses? (at least theory component)

Published

I am interested in nursing because the nursing model helps me to understand more about my own medical conditions. I've also helped care for friends and family and would eventually like to do volunteer work in a health-realated setting. I have several chronic illnesses ( including Lupus, FMS,IBS) which make it difficult to commit to a formal nursing program. I also have ADHD and have difficulty with formal testing, math and science. I do have a non-nursing degree, which I was only able to complete after starting out as a traditional student, then transferring to the continuing education division. I tried to take a CNA course before and the school allowed me to take it after I told them I wanted to take it for personal enrichment only and did not plan to take the exam ( instructor was not happy that I didn't want to take the exam). The written test were pretty easy for me, but I had difficulty with the procedures. In the past I was accepted to a part-time LPN program but unable to attend ( caring for terminally ill family member and struggling with my own medical conditions). I know that it may not be practical for me to formally become a nurse and work full time in many settings, but I would appreciate any advice that would help me to become a part of nursing.
