Is the market flooding with NP's

I am going to graduate with my BSN within the next couple months. It has always been a goal of mine to work as an ED NP. I see what seems like thousands of people enrolling in the many programs out there. I am concerned that there may be too many people pursuing my same goals I don't want to pursue a degree that will be irrelevant in 10 years. Also would it be better for me to go into an acute care NP or and FNP program? Thank you for your time. I appreciate all your advice.

It depends on your specialty and your location. Can you ask currently practicing NPs how they feel about the market in your area?

I work in ED now, working on my FNP. All of the nurses that were ED NP had to go back for a semester or so and take the test for FNP. Im not sure if that is how it is everywhere but at this hospital they want them to be "family" certified because they will see the most stable patients, which are generally clinic type patients a lot of the time.

I don't think that it is a wasted degree, I see them hiring more and more because there is a shortage of ED doctors. If you later decide you don't want to work in ED and you have the FNP you could always go just about anywhere.
