i'm also feeling the same way. my body just feel like i'm broken into a lot of pieces. i'm in a situation where i only have 2 years exp. and if i go anywhere else, that is barely enough experience in an acute care setting. in addition, i have quite a few sick calls to my record which is why i know i'm definitely burned out. what should i do or consider?

Cthomp, I'm just curious how long you've been a nurse and what type of floor do you work on? I've been doing med/surg/tele for 8 yrs and I KNOW that I am burnt out. I've been thinking about going back to school or just switching jobs, but I am uncertain which route to take. All the talk about how hard it is to find a hospital position has me feeling trapped. Why would I leave a job that so many are dying to get into. I don't know what to do, but I'm sure I won't last much longer as a bedside nurse.

I've been looking into clinic nursing, case management, and school nurse as alternatives to bedside care. I wish you all the best.

I feel the same way! I work on a med surg floor and we get the frequent flyers that are pretty much there for their round the clock IV pain meds. It's so frustrating. I originally became a nurse because I wanted to be a midwife, how did I end up here? I have only been a nurse for 3 years and just started at a new hospital. I also feel like my body takes days to recover from the shifts I work. I suggest doing what I'm gonna, go back to school and specialize in something you like in nursing, or like MiamiNrs said look into case management, that's a good alternative, but you'll still have a new set of stressors and annoyances. Good luck!
