Is it so bad?

Published

I am going to be looking for work hopefully starting this summer, and often see job posting for dialysis center like Davita.

I would be applying as phlebotomy/patient care tech type positions.

Reading about dialysis centers sounds interesting. I would like to work someplace where I can follow a patient and their family for an extended period of time. My kids get infusions monthly and I love having the same nurses/staff, getting to know them and knowing they know my family personally.

But, i am only familiar with infusion clinics, and only from the patients side of view. What is it about dialysis clinics that is so bad? Ive been reading and see so many posts about wanting to get out, hating it, its awful....what is it about it that is so bad? Im curious.

Not that I get much choice....if I apply for work, and get in someplace like this, I need the work so I cant be too picky. Im just curious about why so many dislike this type of workplace.

I love dialysis and the renal patients. You will see many posters on here that complain, but there are those out there like me that has been involved with dialysis for 25+ yrs and love it. Many say that you either love dialysis or hate it. We all say that if you are in dialysis for over a year, you will be a lifer. Many of my close friends have also been in dialysis for 20+ years.

I feel those that hate their job in dialysis so much need to find something else, cause they tend to make the work environment miserable for others!

That is just my two :twocents:

Monster.com is used by the large dialysis companies. These would be DaVita, Fresenius, Dialysis Clinic inc just to name a few. You can also check out their websites for job postings.

I personally started my nursing career in Trauma ICU before taking the plunge into dialysis. You might be interested in doing acute hemodialysis treatments as opposed to chronic dialysis in a clinic. It allows you to do treatments in the ICU settings in the hospital. I started out doing acute hemodialysis.
