Hello, I am wondering if there are any IR Nurse Navigators that can share what their role entails? I am newly hired to an IR department as nurse navigator in hospital as a new role for the department as well as myself and the position expectations are a little unclear to me. I am hoping to get perspective from someone who may have experience in this role.

Hi! Are you using EPIC by any chance? I'd love to chat if you are. I'm a Nurse Navigator in the Breast Center (mammo and u/s) and have to use the Radiant (radiology) module and it just isn't made for nurse charting (no place for notes, can't send referrals, etc).
Hi, Yes I am also using Radiant. I agree and it has been a struggle. I've picked up a few things along the way. I'd be happy to try to help.
Great! I am specifically wondering how you add nursing notes and/or do internal/external referrals? Those are the things I'm struggling to figure out. I don't know if all Radiant modules are like this, but ours is not considered a "live" department which is why I can't do referrals. And not being able to add notes is frustrating!
For notes, I create a nursing note. There is a black banner at the very top of my screen "Write Note" with an icon that looks like a steno pad. Do you have that? I click on that, enter patient's mrn, select my department, accept. Then in the bigger tabs under the patient's chart, I open the tab "Notes." Then under Notes, click on New Note. That brings up a side window where I have a drop down menu with preloaded selections and I choose "nursing note."
Nope, we don't have that within Radiant. I am used to charting that way when using other modules in Epic. This is within the Radiant context? There should be a way for me to get it configured that way. I have no way to make a new note at all. Grrr.
Also, do you ever send out external/internal referrals (like for surgery or oncology, etc) through Epic? Is your Radiant considered a "live" department?
