Insight on GPA for CRNA future

Hey everyone. I have a question I was hoping to gain some insight . I am a current RN student. In 2012 I completed 100 credits in which I did not take school seriously and received a 2.57GPA. I took a few science courses such as genetics, dinosaurs, etc. which I did poorly. I went back to school last Summer retaking A&P 1, 2 , micro , patho/pharm, and was able to transfer the rest of my credits to satisfy the prerequisites for my ADN program. My GPA going into this semester is a 4.0 and I have high hopes of becoming a CRNA but I fear my previous 2.57 GPA will hinder my chances. Will science courses outside of my nursing major be used in calculating my science GPA or will they only consider nursing core science classes relevant to the ADN degeee? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share my transcripts to anyone for evaluation as well. Thank you ! ?

Hi there! Great question! A couple things--

1- you are not alone in having a "didn't take school seriously" phase! You can still become a CRNA!

2- Each program is different as far as what they look at, so you're only sure bet is to reach out to your desired program(s). That being said, most will include all courses taken in your overall GPA, and most will also include all science courses when calculating your science GPA (again-- confirm with your programs!)

That being said- you can also look into programs that only look at the last 60 credit hours, or potentially taking some graduate level courses to show that you're matured and can handle the coursework required in CRNA school. Some programs will also consider retakes, if that's an option, but again confirm with your programs (some will replace the old grade entirely, some will average the two and some won't accept retakes so the aforementioned grad level courses may be better ? )

Attending program open houses would be a great way to start to get a feel for which way to go for each school.

Hope this helps. Cheering you on!
