Injured on the job now what?

Published

I'm at a total loss of what to do. I was injured on the job (WCB declined claim) and I have been on and off for the last three years and was on LTD for a short period of time before returning to work. I've been pushing myself too hard and I haven't been coping well and have had serious issues with management over it. It's been a toxic working environment that has been identified as one by the employer and they are taking steps to fix it but that's not really helping me any.

I'm currently on sick leave because of the injury. I have tried to get placed onto a floor that's less physically demanding as I work on one of the heaviest units. Unfortunately my sick time is getting in the way of finding a new position, and also I've been getting a poor reference from management. I've tried speaking to my manager about it and it's an explosive conversation so I'm not getting anywhere. I feel like I'm up against a wall here because I would be ok to work on a lighter floor but I cannot get there because of the amount of sick time I have and the poor reference from management. I've gotten no support from from the employer, and they told me to just apply for other jobs.

It's gotten to the point where I've gone back to school to study something completely different. I feel gutted that I have few options other than leaving the profession. I am considering moving to a larger centre where there are more clinic opportunities but I don't know how to get past this bad reference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm getting desperate!
