Info about SPC / Questions about HCC, USF

I just spoke with a counselor and thought that someone may find this information useful.

SPC selective admissions: Points are given based on completion of prerequisites and general ed courses/ GPA.

60 points come from # of completed prereq/gen ed credits x 2

40 points come from GPA in prereq/gen ed classes only

I have taken 26 of the required credit hours (26 x2)= 52 points

My GPA is 3.73= 37.3 points

Total points= 89.3

Deadline to apply is March 1st. 70% of the spots will be given to the highest scoring applicants at that time. The remaining applicants not selected will be reconsidered in May for the 30% spots remaining.

So when the first pool is selected in March, I'll have 89.3 points. If I take microbiology I will go up to 97.3 points in time to be considered in the 2nd pool.

I was told that I would have got in last semester but there are no guarantees. Has anyone on here applied and been accepted? What was your GPA/ how many classes did you have completed?

I am also wondering about HCC. They use overall GPA and my GPA there will be a 3.6. Would this be too low?

For USF I only have a 3.4 since they do not do grade forgiveness. Would that be too low? (A "student counselor" told me over the phone that all you need is a 3.2 but I told him the website says entry is competitive, but he insisted a 3.2 is high enough. I think he was mis-informed...?)

USF only looks at GPA when deciding who to admit, so unless a 3.4 is in the top 48 of applicants for your class, you won't get in. I think the last few classes have required more like a 3.7 for the traditional program, but that's only hearsay. 3.4 can be good enough to get into the accelerated program if you have a previous bachelor's, depending on your year. You can always apply though, maybe you'll get lucky, since the GPA needed does change every year.
