I'm a student and have a pt. tomorrow who has had a Thrombolectomy to the transfemoral distal aorta. I can't find this in any of my books and I've tried online with no good results. We have to type up a PES (Patho, Etiology, Signs/Symptoms) to turn in first thing tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone knows of any websites that give this type of information that I could go to find it. I've tried my Tabers and it gives a very vague removal of a blood clot, have to have more than that.
I also asked if she meant a Thromboectomy and she said no she (instructor) asked too and was told this is what it is called.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance and I'll check back here a little later.

As far as I know, thrombectomy, thrombolectomy, and embolectomy refer to the same general thing. Essentially they all refer to using a catheter to remove a large clot from an artery surgically. Thrombus is a clot, and embolism is a clot that traveled and lodged somewhere else. So if you think the clot traveled from somewhere else and land in an artery, you would call the removal of it an embolectomy or thrombolectomy. Does that make sense?
Thrombectomy should be in your med/surg book. Think about post-op considerations. What are you concerned about when you surgically manipulate an artery?
