Hi everyone,
I'm just got my RN license in the state of CA after completing an associate degree program. I have a Bachelor's in another area of study and this was a career change. I didnt really enjoy bedside nursing and I sort of knew the second semester of the program. I didnt quit because I always finish what I start and I also know there are many branches of nursing aside from bedside nursing.
Where I am at now is that I am interested in aesthetic nursing. Here are some of my questions:
1. Do I have to put in one year of med-surg/bedside care experience to be taken seriously in future job applications as an aesthetic nurse?
2. Is it a good idea to skip med-surg experience if I am interested in aesthetic nursing.
3. Also... on jobs that require a Masters and ask for a Nurse Practitioner.. what area of focus do they prefer? (ie Practioner in family medicine, womens health, etc, or does it even matter).
If I can find a school that will take me without real-life/paid experience in nursing I will complete my master's and do aesthetic nursing.
I can put my heart into bedside nursing for one year if thats what it takes. But since this is a career change for me and I am in my late 30's, I dont want to waste anymore time doing something I dont need to to. But I am also afraid of pigeon-holing my self too early in the game.
Thanks in advance for any input
