I'm looking for any information (good or bad) about Riley Children's PICU and Peds CVCIU. Are the units traveler friendly? Do you get the to get a good pt assignment or get dumped on? How is traveler scheduling done: along with the core staff or fill in holes?
What about Methodist's PICU? Do they have a Peds CVICU as well?
Any information greatly appreciated. I'm looking in going to Riley next and want to know all updated info and experiences please.
Thanks

I did a short contract in Methodist CVICU last summer. I usually don't badmouth hospitals or agencies because it may well be me and not them. That being said, my experience with Methodist was less than stellar. Staff in CVICU was very cliqueish and did not accept travelers well. The staff is composed mostly of young nurses who remind me of the high school teenager groups. I never met the manager but dealt with the night shift charge all the time. We were there to help them thru the changeover to the Cerner program and there were 43 travel nurses scattered thru the hospital. We all were asked to re-up......no one did. Not one single nurse would stay.
If all you want is to travel to Indy and you have your own support group, it's ok. If you're going there in hopes of learning something, forget it. You will get the assignments their own staff is tired of doing, your schedule sucks and you will be ignored. This attitude seems to permeat the entire Methodist facility. Riley seems to have a different attitude but I'm not a Peds nurse so I don't know.

This was an adult CVICU?
Yep. At least the patients were adults. I'm not sure about some of the staff.

My Daughter has been a frequent flyer at riley's all of her 6 years I am also a nurse for the past 18 years when my daughter spent 5 months in ICU at Riley's the best nurses that made me feel good about their ability was the travel nurses from what I noticed they are treated like everyone else as long as they knew what they were doing on the other hand I am in agreement a nurse should have at least one year of expereince before working a unit like that I ran into a lot of new nurses in ICU at Riley's who I had to remind was not well enough trained to care for a child so ill (especially mine lol) the kids at riley's icu's are very sick remember the sickest kids in Indiana are the ones there another great place to work is cincinnatti childrens I recently have had my little one there on the GI floor very small work loads . and very good care!
