Independent provider PMHNP

Published

Hello! I know this is a very small number of NP's in NY that work as "independent providers" and I don't anticipate a lot of responses, but if there are any psychiatry nurse practitioners out there, can you please tell me more about what you do?

I'm in PMHNP track and ANYTHING you can tell me about your profession would be helpful and deeply appreciated. Just to help get your creative juices flowing, I came up with a list of questions:

Do you like what you do?

What career pathway did you take to get to where you are now?

Do you see a growing need for PMHNP in primary care, that work as independent provider?

How is your relationship with MDs?

What difficulties in autonomy do you have in your practice?

What don't you like about about what you do? If you had the power to change something about your work, what would it be?

How much stress do you feel? Do you feel like you have enough down time?

Do you feel like you have a natural talent for this type of work, or was it something that you developed over time?

If you had it to do over again, would you choose this line of work? If you plan to do something different in the future, what is it?

If you could share information regarding following:

Practice Requirements for Nurse Practitioners:

I. Collaborative Practice

II. Practicing in Accordance with a Written Practice Agreement with a Collaborating Physician

Written Practice Agreements

Written Practice Protocols

Collaborative Relationships (Effective January 1, 2015)

IV. Financial Arrangements between a Nurse Practitioner and a Collaborating Physician

Specializes in FNP, School nursing, LDRP.

I'd be interested in hearing responses also! I am in NY and hoping to start my post-masters PMHNP this summer.

I'm interested as well... a "day in the life of" would be great :-)

Hi

I am looking for an online post masters program that would allow me to complete clinicals in my area. I would have no problem acquiring preceptors. I already have my FNP but would like to practice in the psych arena. Anyone have any suggestions for programs that might be out there?
