So, I've had a huge phobia of veins for a long time now. Just the word will make me hyperventilate and scream a few times. I have made a lot of progress over the years, though. I can watch a needle going into my vein and I don't freak out as it's happening, but I'm wondering how I'll get though this when I have to do blood work on other people.

Has anybody else dealt with this?

I really want to apply for nursing school and become a nurse, but this one thing is going to be my biggest obstacle.

I've never had a phobia of veins, but I do know that I was utterly terrified the first few times I put an IV in. But after awhile you just kind of accept that:

1- you are not causing nearly as much pain as you think you are.

2- You are going to mess up, it happens, even pros can't always get IVs in.

3-You'll learn to objectify the arm. You think, can I get this needle inside this tube. I don't even really think about the veins being veins anymore.

4- You are a professional, and you will keep your composure regardless of whether or not you are freaking out on the inside.
