I'm a sonographer wanting to be a CNM. Advice please :)

Hi! I've always been fascinated with pregnancy/birth/postpartum, even as a young child (I even had 'pregnant barbie ) and went into sonography right out of high school because I wanted to work actively in OB/GYN. I struggled with the decision at the time between pursuing nursing vs. sonography but ended on on ultrasound because I felt I had a greater chance working in my area of interest. L&D jobs were hard to find at the time (and it seems they still are in some areas).

I've now been doing ultrasound for 4 years, and while I still love it, I feel that ever tugging to a CNM. It's just what I've always wanted to do and I thought sonography would be the quick fix, or easy route to being involved in OB/GYN, but I think midwifery is really where I need to be. It's where my heart is. Of course, after having my two children with the love and support of a great MW at home has much to do with this.

Anyways....Now I'm looking into my options. Unfortunatly there are no CCNE or NLNAC ADN programs in my area (we're military out in the middle of nowhere, Central Valley CA). So here are my options...

-Complete my BS online and then apply for direct entry CNM

-Do an ADN program locally but then do ADN to BSN program online, then apply to midwifery school

Also, relocation is not an option :/ Would the sonography be a good background for CNM? I am worried that if I do a direct entry program such as Georgetown that I wouldn't have that great nursing background employers may be looking for.

I'm sorry I wrote a novel, I'm just really struggling with what to do!

I feel like becoming a nurse first would be the best option and that could serve as your foundation. You want to become a certified NURSE midwife. So that would mean getting your ADN then BSN then becoming a CNM.
