My two references still haven't sent in their letters of recommendations. I am applying online through NursingCAS and the application for the school I want to attend is due February 1. I don't want to rush them, but I also don't want them to wait until the last minute, especially since they've had since November to write it. I gave them some slack, though, because of finals and the holiday season. With the deadline nearing, I recently emailed them reminders but I have know idea if professors read university emails over winter break.
So I was wondering - what exactly happens if all parts of my application are complete except the references? Seeing as it is out of my direct control, would it be possible for me to send in my application and have my letters of reference arrive a little late? Would I be penalized for this?
Of course I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'm the type of person who always prepares for the worse. I realize I sound a little antsy, but I've only got one shot at getting into my desired nursing school this year and I don't want to mess it up.

You're going to be penalized unless you ask for an extension on your application. Sorry. I would recommend you just step up and request that your references sent in the letters lest they don't want you in nursing school.
