Hello all,
I am an RN in New Mexico working Med/Surg. I have a good friend whom writes fantastic children's poems. He has been at it for a few years now and has been searching high and low for an illustrator. I suggested to him that he let kids illustrate his stories. I thought also that maybe kids in the hospital may be interested in illustrating since we all know that being in the hospital is no fun especially for a kid! So here I will put his contact info and webpage. He is a great guy with a heart of gold and I'm sure he would love to hear some feedback, suggestions, and any ideas. Or write me back here. I will post one of his poems here as an example and his contact info.
Thanks Ryan RN

Children's Stories
A Lizard in a Blizzard
This is the story of a lizard
whom got stuck in a blizzard
on his way to Seattle
on a herd full of cattle
they were crossing the Rockies
when it started to get frosty
but they didn't stop see
because the sheep dog was bossy
constantly barking
never skylarking
he kept those cows marching
as soon as they departed
that's when all of this started
he acted like
an old mean drill sergeant
he never sang cadence
he just barked it
woof.. hoof.. woof.. bark.. hoof
the lizard sat there
and his head just shook
wishing he had an interesting book
he looked around
and rolled his eyes
then he noticed snow
falling from the sky
thinking oh no
this can't be right
I'm cold blooded
I'm not gonna make it
through the night
how in the world
am I gonna survive
he stood up quick
looking for a place to hide
but he was on the back of a cow
four feet off the far away ground
he ran down the cows back
and back up the spine
knowing he was running out of time
the lizard was cold
he could feel the frost bite
and the sun just went down
the day was turning to the night
the sheep dog quit barking
and immediately sighed
this is where we will stop moving
before we are buried alive
this storm is out of control
but giving up is a no
now is the time to start being bold
the cows huddled up
to fight off the cold
but lizard was done
he was feeling his soul
weak and tired as if he was sick
for he was to old
he slipped off the cow
deep into the snow
sending off wishes
he was ready to go
but as a good ol' sergeant
the sheep dog was walking patrol
and sniffed out the lizard
with his now ice-cycling nose
he dug him out and saw something
he didn't want to see
the lizard was blue
when he was once a bright green
the lizard had some life left
the sergeant just knew
he put him in his mouth
but he did not chew
he was hoping his warm breath
would bring him back to life
he said I'll do what I can
and all I can do is try
I'm doing my best
to keep you alive
I learned in the corps
that we leave no man behind
in just a few hours
the sun will once again rise
and more warmth will come
with the day light
hang on little buddy
fight with your might
your stronger then you know
down deep inside
the lizard heard that
and he opened one eye
he winked at the dog
and said you know what, you're right
