Professional Development Opportunity for School Nurses

With the increase in childhood obesity there is a growing recognition

of the important role that schools can play in promoting healthy eating

and active lifestyles. As the only medical professional in the school

setting, it is important for school nurses to play an active role in

promoting health.

The Healthy Schools Campaign is sponsoring a 3-part training series,

Student Body Challenge: Making Better Health and Fitness a School Policy

for school nurses in Suburban Cook, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Will

Counties. Sessions will be held on June 22, 2006, August 17, 2006 and

February 8, 2007 on the Lisle campus of National-Louis University.

Funding for this is underwritten by the Chicago Community Trust so there

is no charge to participants not seeking semester credit. Stipends,

substitute pay and travel reimbursement are available for participants.

Graduate credit hours may be available through National-Louis

University.
