If you live in San Diego and would like some FREE money to go to nursing school...

I have been truly blessed with an opportunity and it just doesn't feel right keeping it all to myself. I have always wanted to go to school to be a nurse but financially it was just too much. Then I had kids and you know how the story goes. Life got in the way. I'm the type of person that wants to accomplish things quickly and without sacrificing quality. My family is my life and I just couldn't stomach going to a community college because of how long it would take for me to reach my goal. I don't know what the cost is at community colleges but I do know that the going rate for a vocational nursing program in SD is between $33,000 and $38,000. No way could I or would I spend that much on school. Sure I could get loans but I already have too much debt in my opinion and I don't think it would be wise to add that much more. Last December I was referred to an agency called MAAC. They do a lot to help people in the community and while they are a latino based organization they offer their services to anyone in the county. They have a program called SWITCH. They will help fund the tuition for most medical career training, with the exception of massage therapy, accupuncture and other alternative fields. They will pay up to $7,000 for most programs. However for programs such as Vocational Nursing they will pay up to $10,000. On top of that certain institutions will lower the tuition rate for anyone that is getting assistance through this particular program. And the income limits are at 200% which is double what most limits are for low income families to get assistance. My husband makes too much to qualify for any low income assistance but not enough to not struggle each month. Because of MAAC, I will be starting school this month and after a partial Pell and the decrease in tuition and the tuition assistance through MAAC...I am looking at maybe $4,000 down the line...MAYBE! If I can get some Scholarships through FastWeb or other services then I might be looking at a balance of $0. This won't help everyone and there are certain requirements you have to meet but the program ends in 2015. Its federally funded like workforce investment act and funding could be stopped at any time so now is the time to check it out. You don't have to pay it back!!! It's free FREE money. If anyone would like any info please let me know. It has totally changed the course of my life and my family will benefit from it. Most of all I have the opportunity to become a nurse and other than my babies, the only thing I have ever dreamed of or wished for, is to be a nurse. I love people and I have a passion for the elderly and know that God designed me for this field. If you or someone you know would like more info please let me know! God Bless you and yours!
