I know a great majority of schools require at least one year of critical care experience to get into the program and my question is would PICU or NICU count for this or is it ONLY ICU?
What kind of experience did you all have...how many years, was it only in ICU, etc.
Thank you

It's not unheard for schools to accept NICU/PICU. If you know where you are going to apply, it's best to ask that school directly. As for years of experience, I had 2 upon acceptance. The range you are going to see here is 1 to many.
If you have a choice, get yourself into an adult ICU, be it Medical, Surgical or CV.
Good luck,

Depends on the school. Look at the requirements for each schools on their webside. Some will take PICU/NICU experience and some wont. Odds are that if the website doesnt mention them, they dont accept them.

If you're planning on applying to many schools and aren't limited by geography, having adult ICU experience gives you unlimited options - but you should be able to find quite a few that accept NICU/PICU. If you are limited to one part of the country, check out each school in an acceptable distance's website and see what they require for ICU experience and how they phrase what they prefer. Some schools are up front about exactly which adult ICUs they want you to work in, while others welcome candidates with NICU and PICU experience.
