Hi everyone...

Anyone considering using their critical care skills to step up into a travel nurse position? My wife and I are experienced travelers, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We'd be happy to address any questions or concerns, and pass along advice or suggestions that may benefit anyone interested. Cya wink.gif

I would be interested in learning more about ICU travel nursing. I have only been a nurse for about 6 months and know I need at least a year more of experience. What company did you travel with? How do I decide what company to go with? When should I start looking and applying? Is there really a big need for travel nurses now with the economy? Where are there jobs available?

Specializes in CVICU.

I am looking to do some international travelling to New Zealand, but the process is long and I want to ensure that it's worth all the time I'm investing as I have a spouse and daughter that will travel with me. Do you know anything about NZ?

I would recommend that you have more than a year's experience, possibly two. The hospital doesn't want to hold your hands when you get there. I've worked w/ new nurses that traveled, and they weren't ready. There is just so much that you can pretend you know. There is a difference between confidence and competence. Get some more experience and then start asking some questions.
