International College of Health Sciences (ICHS) - Review

Published

Just wanted to give an update.  I'm going to be starting term 3 MS2 & OB/PEDS and I will tell you this program is NOT easy.  You really need to be focused.  We have had a change in leadership and honestly, they needed it.  This dean seems to care about the school and students. There are so many changes and staff is one of them.  A lot of teachers were let go and we have a great deal of new instructors. All clinical instructors I've come across have been beyond wonderful and they really do want you to learn.  I will say this and this is just my opinion but I feel very strongly about this:  if you have ZERO experience as a LVN/LPN, Psych Tech, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, or Medic in the Military you will have a hard time surviving clinicals.  You really are teaching yourself in clinicals.  As a LVN we know what we should be doing and we know what to look for.  We know what we should be asking the RN when it comes to our patients.  3 days of skills lab before being released on the floor is NOT enough for a person with ZERO experience in the clinical setting.  You will struggle, and that can be discouraging.  So far I've had great instructors who are willing to meet with you if you are struggling in theory.  For the clinicals, if you are struggling the instructor is there for you.  Don't expect them to teach you because that's not what they are there for.  You as a student should have learned the skills in lab (this case most have a clinical background) and should know how to apply it.  The clinical instructor is only there as a guide and will assist if you have questions.  With that being said, if you are looking at this school take those into consideration as you want to be successful.  Also want to add this is a great option for CA students who want to get their RN.

hey I am supposed to start Monday. But im going to ask for a august start date . is ir really as bad as people say? Hello!  It did not have a good reputation before I started, but I don't go by what people say because everyone has their opinion.  I need to experience myself to make the decision.  I know people who have graduated and were able to endorse into California.  I really don't care if CA takes it or not because I work for the federal government and I don't need a CA license.  But it's still good to have.  I have two masters degree so all my prerequisites and general education are already completed.  A classmate took straighterline and ICHS accepted it.  As I stated earlier, the school is under new leadership.  So far there are a lot of changes and all positive.  The Dean of the school seems to really care about the students and the school.  I honestly like her a lot, she wants everyone to learn along with clinical instructors and theory instructors.  I'm in term 3 and have capstone next.  I can't wait to be done.

Specializes in Nursing.

Hello @SFBayAreaLVN,

I'm curious how theory and clinicals are taught/offered during the program. Most of it is online correct? Do you go at your own pace or do you need to log on at certain times for theory? Back story: I'm a LVN, all pre reqs and general ED is complete. I live in OC, CA. When clinicals start, how many days are they and is it after each semester or just the end of the program? Thank you for the info in advance.

Theory is offered online and your midterms, CMS, and Final exams are proctored.  Clinicals are in person in Florida.  They can range between 13-21 days not including residency.  Which I believe it's 5 days.  I'm not sure because I'm in 3rd term.  Our clinical I believe is 13 this term and was 17 last term but we had to eat a day because it was a holiday.  We get an air b and b and split the cost.  We don't split the cost of transportation because we don't know where we will be sent so we take separate rental cars.  You have to take clinicals concurrent with theory.  You have deadlines with assignments so it's not self paced.  There is a two week break between each term. I hope this helps
