I don't want to do it

So - I am a mature nurse that recently (about 5 months ago) took a position that did not require me to supervise anyone. I have been there done that and quite honestly I just want to be responsible for my own mistakes.

Unfortunately, due to a mass exodus of staff, I have now been informed that I will be 'temporarily' assigned to oversee approximately 15 staff (varying roles both clinical and admin) until the positions are filled. I have voiced my displeasure, but have reluctantly agreed to do my best in the interim. I plan to retire at the end of 2020 - should I just move on, or stay and lend my 'expertise' to this sinking ship?

We probably don’t have enough details to make blanket recommendations. Can you move on? Is there a new job available, particularly for one of your maturity? I probably would not want to put up with the added aggravation unless I had to work until that date. That’s my take on it.

...and how much more compensation are they talking here? If the answer is "our undying gratitude" then I'd be polishing up my resume.

No extra $$, this position is subordinate to my current position. A lot more stress, dealing with several ambulatory care sites. I am low key looking for another opportunity.

Is it too late to refuse? Have you agreed to this in writing or just verbally? Could you send an email at this point... "I have considered the proposal that I act as interim supervisor, but I must refuse this position."

Sounds like the right thing to me. No more money but more responsibility is do more with less to the extreme. I hope you find a low key fit for your remaining time!

I would be really reluctant to take on more stress and responsibility if they're not going to make it worth your while. At this point in your career you should be able to wind down and slide into retirement not crash and burn into it.

Can you retire earlier than that?
