I took the Job!

Published

Okay, First of all... thanks to everyone who replied to my previous message. I wanted to let yall know that I decided to follow my gut feeling and take the ICU job!! I am very excited and will be starting probably on the 12th of January. I just couldn't think of anyother place I should be. I had to follow my instincts with this one. I think that although there are a few nurses in this unit that might not be as receptive to new grads as others, I can handle this. And.... I won't be a new grad forever right?? Thanks again for all of the support!

hugs...

Congrats on your new job!

Some people might not be excited about a new grad working in ICU but don't let them ruin it for you. Find those nurses that are supportive and learn as much as you can from them. You don't need all that negativity!

Whatever...i went straight into ICU out of nursing school also! The best way to learn is to be thrown right on in!!! Good Luck!

I totally agree, and I too went straight into critical care after graduating from nursing school. I don't regret it at all and I somehow doubt that going the "traditional" route of working M/S first would have made me a better nurse, simply because, like yourself, I did not feel that was the best fit for me.

My advice to you is to trust your gut and NEVER be afraid to ask questions if you're feeling unsure about something. Also remember that your orientation is very important to your success as a new RN in the ICU.

I wish you the very best of luck! Congratulations on your new job!
