71- 80 I did it/ Tips

Published

I'mm so freaken happy right now. I got a 71 on my 1st test and an 80 on my second attempt I will be updating this post for tips and what material I used.

1st attempt:

Reading Score: 83.0%

Math Score: 84.4%

Science Score: 57.4%

English and Language Usage Score: 58.3%

2nd attempt

Reading Score: 83.0%

Math Score: 78.1%

Science Score: 89.4%

English and Language Usage Score: 66.7%

So here are the materials I used (I wont be giving adivce on english I'm really bad at it

Study Material

  • TEAS mastery app and pocket prep( but pocket prep hasnt been working this last week)
  • Kahn academy
  • ATI TEAS Strategies, Practice & Review with 2 Practice Tests: Online + Book
  • ATI study manual
  • Crash Course
  • Quizlet: Teas Folder | Quizlet (here is a link to my flash cards if any of yall want to use it you shold still at least watch the crash course videos and take your own notes though)

SCIENCE

So let me just say this the ATI TEAS Strategies, Practice & Review with 2 Practice Tests: Online + Book is amazing. It goes into so much detail for the science portion but not so much where its giving you a lot of unnessary info. Gives you advice on how a professional would eliminate the questions. I believe with the combination of this book and Crash Course I was able to get a 89 on the science portion. Really this book is better than the ATI study manual.

Math

I used Kahn academy for math but i didn't study for it this time so I ended up getting a 78. I should also note that I didn't see it in the ATI TEAS 6 book but it was in the ATI TEA 5 book you should know what interest, service charges, deposits, and checks. Just know which one is adding and which one is subtracting. I also don't remember seeing absolute value but you do need to know this two things.

Videos from Khan I used and practice problems

  • Percent word problem: 100 is what percent of 80?
  • Growing by a percentage
  • Two-step inequalities
  • Solving percent problems
  • Percent word problem: recycling cans
  • Percent word problem: guavas
  • Percent word problem: 78 is 15% of what number?
  • Percent word problem: penguins
  • Interpreting absolute value
  • Absolute value and number lines

Honestly the ATI manual goes over the math section really well

Reading

I never studied for reading on my first and second test. If you really having trouble with reading I suggest you look at old SAT or (idk what state your in but this is just the ones for texas ) TAKS and STAR reading passages because there basically the same as TEAS. Just the TEAS has smaller passages. If you need help practicing supporting, main passage, and what not. Also need to know what parallel, perpendicular, horizontal, vertical, and right angel are. I think however the ATI 6 gives you a good enough examples and practice of whats it going to be like. However the passages are so small when I took my test there were at least 5 or 6 paragraphs. For example if you look at practice problem 2.5 add 2 or 3 more paragraphs.

So I cant really say that the ATI manual goes over this well because I never studied for it. But I give you this advice about TAKS SAT and STAR because its really just like those two test when it comes to reading.

Some advice to people who may not be used to taking this benchmark style test is when you read the passage take notes. Summerize each paragraph in 2 sentences or write down key words. If you want to do this I suggest timing your self before you take the TEAS. The first time I took the TEAS I had 10 mins left to spare second time I had 30 mins because I only got 2 reading passages (which was weird) the first time I got at least 6 long readong passages. Personally it helps me remember the story a lot better and I dont have to keep looking back at the story for the questions. This is just how we were taught to do it at my school.

Wow your Science score really went up.. Congratulations! Please update tips and study advice.. I took mine and BOMBED IT! I signed up again for August and it's a MUST HAVE to PASS or I can't get into school in August and have to wait another year.. again, congratulations and please update on HOW and WHAT you did to pass.

I forgot to mention in my other comments section, How long exactly did you prepare for the test? You see, with me the first one it was literally 13 days and I was trying to cram it but this time it will be at least two and a half months AFTER I take the review course so again how long did you prepare yourself between the first and second test?..And thank you for posting your agenda. I'm taking notes for sure.

How I study for it is. I did 2 body systems a day. I took down notes from the Kaplan book(ATI TEAS Strategies, Practice & Review with 2 Practice Tests: Online + Book) and I watched a course video after I was done taking the notes. Then Id take notes from the course video. I have about 20 pages of brief over views of the body systems + chemisty portion. Every day I would reread this notes when I wake up a couple of times during the day, and before I go to bed. I also used quizlet I posted the link to my cards but I do suggest writing listening and taking your own notes. Because it really helps with memorization. Especially rereading.

I dont really know edit my comments anymore so I just attaching this one as general tip
