What is the role of a nurse in today's world?

The role/s of nurses in todays world are many. We are patient advocates, we are educators, we are a shoulder to cry on, we are the bearer of loads for patients. There are really so many aspects of nursing that exist, it is difficult to narrow it down. I suppose the most important part is being a patient advocate.

We are also the main line of communication from the pt to the doctor. They depend on us to catch things before they go bad. Such a drastic blood result, or changes in their condition. Without us they might lose more pts. In early years our medical knowledge was ignored, but not today. They depend on our assessments and knowledge greatly.
