Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone. I'm seriously so confused and lost right now. So I just graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology but now I decided that I wanted to do nursing. I also minored in Biology so I got most of the prerequisites out of the way already. However, I'm not very happy with my grades. My overall GPA is about 2.4. Right now I'm just retaking general and organic chemistry to get a better grade. I want to apply to CSU's but I know that only CSUB, CSULB, and CSUS replaces your worst grade with the best grade if you repeated a course, and CSUC averages out the grades. So do you guys think that I should apply to just the 4 CSU's? What are some relatively 'easier' private schools in California that you guys would recommend? I don't know where to star, I feel so lost. Can you guys give me some advice? Id really appreciate it.

I attend CSU Stanislaus and will be starting their BSN program this fall. Some universities are starting to get strict with admission requirements in nursing. Stanislaus only allows you to repeat 1 science and 1 non science course and they will also take points off your nursing application for the repeats. Every schools requirements are different. The only private university that I can think of is Dominican University that's in the bay area. As far as an ”easy” program I don't think there's any ”easy” nursing programs. A nursing program is not meant to be easy or else everyone would become a nurse. You should look into nursing programs that are accredited, reputable, will prepare you well and have high nclex pass rates, not the easiness of the program. Maybe more posters can give u more info on reputable private schools here in Cali. Best of luck to you.

I currently attend CSULB, they just changed the rules last semester. You are no longer allowed to retake science classes to improve your GPA. It sucks :( just wante to let you know though!

I know that all of the programs are competitive. That's why I quoted 'easy' and I said RELATIVELY speaking. Ahhh but thanks for your input.

So far, I'm thinking of applying to Sacramento (because I believe they replace repeated courses with new grades), Fresno (because I believe they replace 2 repeated courses), Bakersfield (because I believe they replace 3 repeated courses), and San Jose (because the last 30 units are most imperative).

Thanks for the info on CSULB Kathryn, looks like I won't be applying there:(

If you guys have anymore insights as to which schools you think I should apply to then please let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it. I was also considering private schools such as the Samuel Merrit University, but I'm not sure which other ones are reputable. Thanks guys.
