Hello everyone,

I have admission into a fast track program and I just want to know the difference b/w that and transfering into a traditional program.

If you do not have a license (LPN/LVN) and are entering into a generic nursing program, there are two ways:

The fast track program that will get you through the program faster. Often there are no holidays, breaks, etc. You just continue on one class after the next and through the summer break and/or spring/winter break. The semesters/quarters may be shorter than the regular nursing program. You may graduate with a BSN in 2.5 years; not certain about an ADN program.

The regular program will follow its own time frame. You probably will not have nursing classes during the summer--that is the time to take gen ed classes. You will have winter/spring break..again, time to take electives or gen ed classes. Depending on whether you are an ADN or BSN you will graduate in 2 years or 4 years.

If you have a non nursing bachelor's degree, you can enter into the fast track bsn program. You still must take the general nursing classes, but because you have a bachelor's degree, you will not take the required gen ed classes for the bachelor's degree and the program may be faster than the regular BSN program. That goes for the non-nursing bachelors to masters in nursing. You go through the nursig courses, faster, and then take the NCLEX. Once you pass, you go on with your masters and do not have to reapply to the program or fill out the masters degree in nursing paperwork because you are already in the program.
