Hi!

I've just started a new job in a medical unit. In my previous job, our policy was that we couldn't use a pump when giving RBC's as the pump mechanism haemolysis the fragile RBC's. However, in my new job, the policy is the opposite. Both facilities use the same make/model of pumps. So, what is the correct way to administer blood? With or without a pump? ...oh yeah, and I forgot to say that the pump is a Baxter flo-guard.

hi, I have just changed jobs as well, going from an acute setting to district.

We always used an imed pump for administering RBC, as we did when administering and ivf.
