I've been in the OR for 2.5 years now and I'm switching jobs soon. One of the places I'm interviewing with is a level 1 trauma center and I have absolutely no experience with that. I'm pretty well rounded and I'd be willing to learn, but I was just curious on what the learning curve would be like?

And do OR's have trauma teams, or is everyone expected to know how to do it?

In level one centers, trauma teams rotate with scheduled surgeries and trauma assignments. Generally, there are a few rooms left open and staffed in the event a trauma comes in. These teams work as floaters and break people in between traumas. Get ready for the best learning opportunity available. Is it a university affiliated teaching facility? If so, you'll learn right along with everyone else in the room. Good Luck!
