I got in at Kennesaw!

Well I got in...I'm pretty happy about that but I was hoping to get into the accelerated program and from my letter it seems that I only got into the traditional program (which isn't particularly easy in and of itself so I'm still very grateful). I was hoping to talk to anyone who got in or who goes to KSU to find out how these letters work and if there is a waiting list for the accelerated program? It's a bit strange b/c I technically only applied to the accelerated program per my original application. Does anyone know if you don't quite make the cut there, if they just offer you the traditional program? My grades were pretty good, 7 As, 3 Bs, 2 pending (Micro, Chem II). Overall GPA 3.4. Part of the problem may have been that I don't have any healthcare experience and the fact that I didn't send a portfolio to document my volunteer experiences (I just indicated them on my Resume). I was scrambling to get everything in before my daughter had to have unexpected heart surgery. Honestly it may be more of a blessing in disguise, as I've heard the accelerated program is quite a lot to handle (I have a hubby and almost 2 year-old), but I would have liked the opportunity to give it a shot. The admissions committee also knew about my daughter so perhaps they were trying to spare me the stress, lol. So if anyone out there just got in, or if you know anything about the above info, please let me know. I'm also wondering how many applications they got versus spaces available in the 2 programs. If you are someone who didn't get in, my letter stated that there were many qualified students that they had to turn down, I'm sure that you were one of them! We need to encourage our friends who are nurses to become nurse educators so we can all go to school, lol!

Blessings,

Kennesaw doesn't consider anything except your top 7 out of 12 prerequisite grades. I, too, applied for the Accelerated program, but also received a "generic letter" saying that I was put on the waiting list for -- what appeared to be -- the Traditional program. It in no way mentioned the Accelerated program -- though that's the only thing I applied for. So, your guess is as good as mine. From what Sandy Pitts told me, there were approximately 70 people "accepted" to the program (Is that combined Traditional and Accelerated, or is that just Traditional??? I don't know...), and 5-10 were put on a waiting list (I suppose I am one of the ten...lol). I called Sandy to find out what my actual odds are of potentially getting a spot, and she implied that the chances were fairly good. (Some people actually decide after the fact to go to Emory or Georgia Baptist, etc.) So, keep your fingers crossed for me -- more waiting -- I was told that I might not find out if I've gotten a spot in the program until potentially the day before Fall clinicals begin! Ugh.

If I were you, I think I would call Fran Paul or Sandy Pitts and ask which program you were accepted to -- I think you have a right to know, at this point! :wink2:

Congratulations on your acceptance!!! You should be very proud.

Best wishes in clinicals! Maybe -- if I'm lucky -- I'll see you there!

Hi

Well I talked to Fran Paul today and confirmed that I was admitted to the "Traditional" program. She did, however, place me on the stand-by list for "Accelerated." I also found out that they have changed their "Traditional" program to run thru the Summer, so now it's only like a 4 month difference btwn the 2 programs (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring as opposed to Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall). Not a big deal if you ask me. The "Traditional" program used to go: Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring, Fall. I'm soooo glad they changed it! I'm not sure I'd even be up for the "Accelerated" program now, the added stress is definitley not worth it for 4 months! There is a chance however that my dh will be asked to transfer to Providence, RI. So if that were to happen then the "Accelerated" program may be a better option because we could move sooner if we have to. I also went to Kennesaw today to turn my acceptance form in, so I'm very excited; I even went to the bookstore to look at the nursing textbooks (I'm such a nerd  ). I can't wait to start but at the same time I know I need to relax this Summer and really enjoy my daughter and the sunshine!

Blessings,

C
